What is a digital magazine?

What is the digital format, and how is it different from the print format?

We've partnered with a company called Texterity to provide our magazine in a powerful, new digital form with the same layout, text, and advertisements as the print version. The digital format offers a paper-like reading experience, but with many advantages possible only in digital format, including:

  • Automatic delivery of every issue directly to your computer via the Internet as soon as it hits the newsstand, often before you would receive it through the regular mail.
  • The ability to read your magazines anytime, anywhere - even when you're offline.
  • A hyperlinked Table of Contents takes you directly to the articles, features, and sections of most interest to you.
  • Quick links to advertisers' sites and additional editorial content on the Web.
  • Keyword search that helps you find a topic or name in seconds.
  • A "Send to Friend" feature that allows you to send free digital copies of articles in the magazines to colleagues, complete with your notes.
  • Paperless archiving. Keep back issues on your computer for fast reference and easy storage.
  • The addition of rich media content that brings articles and advertisements to life.
  • The ability to post a link in your blog directly to an article in the online issue.

Does the digital format contain everything in the print format: articles, photos, and advertising?

Yes, the digital format offers you the same great content, and the same great design as our print magazine. You won't miss a single article, photo or advertisement.

How does it work?

What application will I use to read my digital magazine?

Texterity offers the only browser based format without any additional downloads. Issues beginning with the March 12th issue are stored online in the Archives.

How do I get my digital issues?

Texterity will notify you by email as each new issue becomes available. You can also register for an RSS feed to notify you.

Do I need to be connected to the Internet to read my magazines?

While you will need to be connected to the Internet to initially access the issue, you can download the issue to your computer for later viewing offline.

How much disk space does a typical issue take up?

If you choose to download to your PC or Macintosh, then each issue takes up about 10-20MB of space. However, it is not necessary to download the issue if you want to read online.

Digital magazine features

Can I read my digital magazines at work and at home?

Of course! You can view the issue online from different PCs, once you've opened the issue from your notification email message.

If the magazine is in digital format, does that mean I can do a keyword search for a topic?

Yes, you can. You can search for a word or set of words that appear in the text of a magazine, making it easier to find that article you remember reading last month.

Can I share my digital magazines with a friend or colleague, as I can with the print format?

Absolutely. The Digital Edition has a "Send to Friend" feature that lets you invite friends or colleagues to view articles. You can even personalize the email you send. "Hey Joe, check out this article! Maybe we should be trying this!"

Can I print from the digital edition?

Yes, you can print a single page or the entire issue.

Will back issue archives be available? Is there a charge to access them?

Each issue you receive is stored online and accessible from the Archives menu for up to one year. There is no additional charge to access the back issues.

Can I create a blog link to an article, and will the link be permanent (a permalink)?

Yes! The blog link can be cut-and-pasted into a blog article, and will be a "permalink" available for as long as the issue is available. Anyone clicking on the blog link will be able to instantly access the page you refer to.
