6 Best Email Marketing Software Platforms for Publishers in 2026

    Last updated: September 30, 2026

Email and newsletters outperform every other channel on the two jobs that matter most: growing an audience and keeping it engaged. Our 2026 State of Audience in Media Report found that 67% of media organizations named email and newsletters as a top audience growth driver, and 68% said newsletters or digest products were their single most effective retention tactic. No other channel comes close on either measure.

That reliability matters even more this year, and going into 2027, as advertising has been under pressure, third-party data keeps getting less trustworthy, and platform-driven discovery keeps shifting underneath publishers.

Email is the one channel a publisher still owns outright: no algorithm change can take it away, and no platform can cut off access to it.

That ownership is also why email carries so much weight in a media business. A single platform might be distributing a dozen newsletters, converting anonymous readers into known subscribers, promoting events, onboarding new subscribers, reducing churn, winning back inactive readers, and tying all of it back to subscription and advertising revenue, often at the same time.

Below, we compare six platforms built for or adapted to email marketing in media and publishing: Omeda, Beehiiv, Braze, Twilio SendGrid, HubSpot, and Adobe Marketo Engage.

Before comparing them, let’s define email marketing software and look at what publishers specifically should look for in a platform.

    What Is Email Marketing Software?

Email marketing software is any platform used to build, send, and track email communications with an audience at a scale and cadence that would be impractical to manage from a personal inbox.

That can mean anything from a single newsletter send to fully automated, behavior-triggered lifecycle programs running across an audience of millions. The common thread is the same: the software handles audience management or segmentation, message creation, email delivery, and performance reporting so teams can manage campaigns at scale.

The category can get confusing because “email marketing software” is used both narrowly to describe tools built primarily for sending campaigns and broadly to include platforms where email is part of a wider customer engagement or marketing automation strategy.

For media companies, what matters more than category labels is whether the platform supports how publishers actually use email. Depending on the business, that may mean high-volume deliverability, first-party audience segmentation, subscriber lifecycle automation, multi-brand newsletter workflows, or integration with subscription and audience systems.

What Publishers Should Look For in an Email Marketing Platform

The right platform depends on how central email is to your audience strategy, the number of brands or newsletter products you operate, and how your wider technology stack is structured.

Here are the capabilities we believe matter most for media companies.

    • High-volume sending and deliverability. Publishers can send millions of emails across multiple newsletter products, campaigns, and brands. Look for reputation monitoring, list hygiene, suppression management, authentication options, deliverability expertise and infrastructure that can scale without creating extra work for editorial or audience teams.
    • First-party audience segmentation. An email address alone tells you very little. Publishers should be able to segment readers based on signals such as reading behavior, newsletter engagement, registration status, subscription status, event attendance, declared interests, and lifecycle stage.
    • Integration with subscription, paywall, and audience systems. Subscription status should not live in a separate world from email. Connecting an email platform with subscription management, registration gates, paywalls, and a customer data platform makes it possible to trigger campaigns based on what readers actually do and where they sit in the customer lifecycle.
    • Newsletter and multi-brand workflows. Media businesses often manage several publications, newsletters, and editorial teams simultaneously. Reusable templates, brand-level reporting, dynamic content, and workflows that make it easy to operate multiple products become more important as that portfolio grows.
    • Personalization and lifecycle automation. Basic automation starts with a welcome sequence. Publisher automation can also include behavioral content recommendations, subscription renewal campaigns, churn mitigation, upsells, and win-back campaigns.
    • Meaningful measurement. Open and click rates are useful, but they should not be the end point. Publishers increasingly need to connect email activity to deeper outcomes such as registrations, subscriptions, retention, and revenue. Accurate engagement data also matters as bot traffic makes raw click counts less reliable.
    • Compliance requirements. For example, CAN-SPAM, GDPR and CASL should also be built into list-management and consent processes, particularly for publishers operating across regions.

With those criteria in mind, here is how six leading email marketing platforms compare for media companies and publishers.

The platforms below solve different parts of the email problem. Some focus on newsletter publishing, some on enterprise automation, and some on the infrastructure required to deliver email at very large scale.

Comparing the Top 6 Email Platforms for Publishers

    Omeda

Omeda powers some of the biggest media brands in the world to send billions of emails every year, with 7.6 billion client emails delivered in 2025 and a 99.18% delivery rate for emails sent in Q4 alone. Behind those numbers is an email marketing solution built specifically for media companies rather than adapted from a general marketing tool, with more than 425 million audience records cleansed and matched to keep that sending base accurate.

Because email runs on the same data as the rest of Omeda’s audience platform, campaigns can be triggered directly from a subscriber’s lifecycle stage, engagement history, or subscription status, rather than an exported list handed off between systems. An automatic click-bot suppression feature keeps engagement metrics accurate, and a dedicated deliverability team helps resolve sending reputation issues before they affect inbox placement.

    Standout capabilities include:

    • Media-specific subscriber lifecycle management across free, registered, and paid audiences
    • High-volume sending built for newsletters, promotional email, digital magazines, event invitations and auto-renewals
    • Automatic click-bot suppression for cleaner, more trustworthy engagement data
    • A dedicated deliverability team and best-in-class data governance for GDPR and other privacy requirements
    • Brand-level and individual email reporting, with prebuilt deliverability and performance dashboards

Omeda is rated 4.5 on G2 and is best suited to publishers that want email running on the same first-party data foundation as their subscriptions, events, and advertising, rather than as a standalone send tool.

    Beehiiv

Beehiiv is designed specifically around the newsletter business model: create an audience, grow it and monetize it, all from one platform. Rather than positioning itself as a general-purpose ESP, Beehiiv brings the newsletter editor, website builder, subscriber growth tools, digital products, sponsorships, and analytics together under one roof, so a newsletter operator isn’t stitching together five separate tools.

Growth tools include referral programs, recommendations, subscribe forms and pop-ups, and access to a large ad network available to publishers. Monetization runs through paid subscriptions (with no platform fee on that revenue), sponsorships and digital products, and Beehiiv’s automation and segmentation tools let creators personalize content without writing code.

    Standout capabilities include:

    • A newsletter-first editor with professional templates and full brand customization
    • Built-in growth tools: referrals, recommendations, subscribe forms, and a large newsletter ad network
    • Monetization through paid subscriptions, sponsorships, and digital products, with no fee on subscription or product revenue
    • Automation, segmentation, A/B testing and surveys built into the core platform
    • Integrations with Stripe, Zapier, Google Analytics and other common tools

Beehiiv is rated 4.5 on G2. Its focus is narrower than platforms designed to manage a publisher’s wider audience, subscription, and cross-channel marketing infrastructure, which makes it a strong fit for independent newsletter operators and editorial teams building a newsletter-first product, and a less complete fit for larger, multi-brand publishers that need email connected to a broader subscription and CDP stack.

    Braze

Braze is a customer engagement platform rather than a publisher-specific email platform. Its email product is built around personalized, dynamic messaging, real-time behavioral triggers, and AMP for email, which enables interactive inbox experiences, and it’s designed to extend naturally into SMS, mobile app messaging, web, and paid channels once email is working.

Where Braze stands out is in how tightly targeting and optimization are tied to real-time customer behavior. Teams can build audiences from first-party data, trigger messages as behavior changes, experiment with content and send cadence, and use those results to continually refine campaigns.

    Key capabilities include:

    • Dynamic and personalized email content, including AMP for email
    • Real-time behavioral segmentation and journey orchestration
    • Experimentation, analytics, and AI-powered optimization
    • Expansion into SMS, mobile, web and paid media

Braze is rated 4.4/5 on G2, and is best suited to media companies that need email working in step with several other engagement channels rather than as a standalone newsletter or ESP tool.

    Twilio SendGrid

Twilio SendGrid Marketing Campaigns is the most infrastructure-focused platform in this comparison, giving publishers the tools to build their own subscriber experience rather than adopt a media-specific one.

The appeal is flexibility. SendGrid gives technical teams APIs, contact management, automation tools and detailed control over how email fits into a wider product or data stack. Publishers can use its campaign tools out of the box, or have developers build more customized workflows around the underlying sending infrastructure.

What SendGrid does not position itself around is publisher-specific audience management. Its product materials focus on email delivery, campaign execution, and integration rather than subscription lifecycle management, paywalls, or media-specific workflows. That makes it closer to the role Stripe plays for publishers building their own billing experience: a strong underlying layer that a technical team can build a more customized experience on top of.

    Key capabilities include:

    • APIs and flexible contact management
    • Automation, segmentation and dynamic templates
    • Dedicated IP and authentication options
    • Real-time campaign analytics

Twilio SendGrid is rated 4/5 on G2 and is best suited to publishers with technical resources that want more control over how email is integrated into their wider stack.

    HubSpot

HubSpot approaches email from a CRM point of view. Its email marketing tools live inside Marketing Hub and are built around personalization using CRM attributes: contact details, company, lifecycle stage, and list membership. Automated workflows can trigger follow-up actions based on email opens, bounces, and link clicks, and an AI writer helps generate subject lines and email copy directly inside the editor.

The platform’s biggest advantage is also its clearest limitation for publishers. It’s tightly integrated with HubSpot’s broader CRM, sales and service tools, which makes it a natural fit for organizations already running marketing, sales and support on HubSpot. It isn’t built around a subscriber lifecycle, newsletter monetization or the high-volume, brand-specific sending patterns publishers rely on. For media companies, HubSpot tends to make the most sense where email supports a broader sales or lead-generation motion, such as B2B publishing, conferences, webinars, sponsorship programs, or any business where a CRM is already central to the marketing stack.

    Key capabilities include:

    • A drag-and-drop editor with goal-based email templates for newsletters, promotions, and announcements
    • An AI email writer for generating and refining subject lines and copy
    • Personalization using CRM data: contact name, company, lifecycle stage, and list membership
    • Automated workflows triggered by email opens, bounces, and clicks
    • A/B testing and built-in analytics for campaign performance

HubSpot is rated 4.4/5 on G2, and is best suited to organizations that want email marketing bundled with a general-purpose CRM and sales platform, rather than publisher-native subscriber lifecycle management or newsletter monetization.

    Adobe Marketo Engage

Adobe Marketo Engage is a broader marketing automation platform, built for organizations running complex nurture programs and multi-step customer journeys rather than email on its own.

It supports batch sends, automated nurture tracks, and personalization built around continually updated customer and account profiles, extending across web, mobile, events, webinars, and digital advertising. Native CRM integration keeps that activity in sync with sales, and out-of-the-box dashboards tie it back to broader marketing outcomes through multi-touch attribution.

That depth suits B2B media brands running account-based marketing or long, multi-touch sales cycles alongside their content. For most publishers, though, it’s more marketing automation than a newsletter-centric operation needs, better suited to B2B pipeline generation than to growing and retaining a reader base.

    Key capabilities include:

    • Agentic AI tools for building, iterating on, and personalizing campaigns conversationally
    • Omnichannel coordination across email, web, mobile, chat, events, and digital advertising
    • Native, bi-directional CRM integration to keep sales and marketing data in sync
    • Lead scoring and sales-engagement tools built for B2B pipeline generation
    • Out-of-the-box dashboards and multi-touch attribution reporting

Marketo Engage is rated 4.1/5 on G2, and is best suited to enterprise B2B organizations that need marketing and sales tightly aligned around pipeline, rather than publishers whose primary goal is reader growth and retention.

Why Omeda Is the Best Email Marketing Platform for Publishers

Every platform in this comparison serves a legitimate use case. But publishers have a more complex relationship with email than most businesses. Readers move between anonymous visits, newsletter sign-ups, registrations, events, and paid subscriptions, creating signals that can be used to make email more relevant throughout the audience lifecycle.

We are, of course, biased, but this is where we believe Omeda has the clearest advantage for media companies.

Because Omeda combines audience management and email activation in the same platform, publishers can build segments and automated journeys around subscriber behavior without constantly moving data between separate systems. That makes it easier to personalize campaigns based on how readers engage with the wider business, not just how they interact with email.

Fusable, a media company serving the trucking and heavy-duty construction industries, shows what that can look like in practice. Its automated welcome and re-engagement series had flatlined, with response rates falling to 1% or less across four flagship titles.

Using audience personas already built in Omeda’s Audience Builder, together with Omeda’s automated journey tool, the team rebuilt those series around role-specific messaging rather than one-size-fits-all content.

The results were substantial. One welcome series increased unique clicks per delivered email by 138% and unique clicks per opened email by 158%. Another increased those same metrics by 592% and 2,228%, respectively.

“We have been thrilled with the results,” said Paul Daniel, Director of Audience at Fusable. “This significant improvement demonstrated the effectiveness of our tailored content in engaging new subscribers.”
